Bill was a veteran of World War II, wherein he saw combat beginning in Italy and then in the south of France. He was first wounded in some of the most violent combat of the war in Italy, recovered from his wounds and was returned to the front line with his regiment, which was then in the south of France.
He served with both valor and suffering as part of 142nd Infantry Regiment of the U. There he would again be wounded in combat, receiving such injuries to his body that he required many surgeries to save his left leg and to sustain his life.
He reached the rank of sergeant, Company B, 142nd Infantry Regiment of the United States Army. Bill was twice married, his first marriage ending in divorce. Burga (Dreama) of Beach Park, Ill., and Elizabeth Ann Burga Turner (Arnold Jr.) of Prestonsburg.
For Bill’s wounds, our nation awarded him two Purple Hearts and for his valor in combat our nation awarded him both the Bronze Star and the Silver Star. By his first wife, Alta Osborne Burga, he had three children who were raised by their mother in her home in Wheelwright, being: Billy Burga Jr. By those children he has five grandchildren, Arnold Brent Turner, James Ryan Turner, Rhonda Rena Burga Molinaro, Carrie Elizabeth Burga Kidder, and Jeffrey Thomas Burga; and five great-grandchildren, Arnold William Blake Turner, Angelique Celeste Turner, Adeline Hope Turner, Isaiah James Turner and Stefanie Lee Molinaro.
In 1952, he married Estelle Ward George, who at that time had eight children of her own.
Bill took them and raised them as his own, giving them both support and love.
Estelle and two of those stepchildren, Patricia Ann Lowe and Ray George, preceded Bill in death.
He is survived by four stepsons, William George (Anna Mae) of Laura, Ohio, Roger George (Ramona) of Covington, Ohio, Jimmy Douglas George (Karen) of Brazonia, Texas, and David George (Rhonda) of Bradford, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Clara Jean Howard (Dean) of Jamestown, Ohio, and Kay Grosnickel of Springboro, Ohio; 19 stepgrandchildren, and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.
